Daido Moriyama Quote

From an interview in Aperture magazine:

"The passing decades change how we see—but basically I have always been shooting for exactly the same reason. The shock that comes from the outside world. ... [S]omewhere in the day-in-day-out, there is something extraordinary. There is a ton of it. That is what I am interested in. That is what I respond to."

Rosie Lee Tompkins in the New York Times

The New York Times has an article on the quilts of Rosie Lee Tompkins (born Effie Mae Martin in Gould, Ark.), who will have a retrospective this September at the Berkeley Art Museum this September, and Eli Leon, the quilt collector who bequeathed them to the museum upon his death in 2018.

"Tompkins’s work, I came to realize, was one of the century’s major artistic accomplishments, giving quilt-making a radical new articulation and emotional urgency."
