Seven tiny sculptures made using only three items: a wooden clothespin, a foam earplug, and a scrap of muslin.
Haptic
From Physical Traces of Making, a project by Kim Norton:
“Initiated by Richard Serra's Verb List 1967–8 … . Looking at ideas around the haptic, through process led exploration and research. “
And by “haptic,” Norton is not referring to the buzz and vibration of a smartphone – the word’s current popular usage – but “relating to the sense of touch, in particular relating to the perception and manipulation of objects using the senses of touch and proprioception.”
“By stripping away the use of tools and simply using hands, weight and pressure are used to reach different outcomes. The visual language is ultimately be led by the process.”
Two Excerpts from Blind Spot
"There is not surrender of beauty, only an effort to find beauty by going past the typical and arriving at the common. ... The sun pours itself all over the world and over the world's things. Things are being built, or repaired, or broken. Things sit in the street, free of use. Things are on the verge of speech. Ladders rise, and angels invisibly ascend and descend." (So many ladders in this books. A few pages later: "The meaning of the ladder for Jacob was positive. But he took fright, for he knew that a ladder can take you up and bring you down.")
"We build, we correct what we have built, we break down what we have built, we build again, and correct again."

Found Cat
I found this little terra cotta cat – tiger? leopard? – at a dump site where I picked up a load of discarded clothes and photos from the Arkansas State Police circa 1980. But this was the best part. It’s about three inches tall and eight inches long. And heavy, since it’s nearly solid. There’s a name etched into the bottom of one of the paw: Sally Andrews.
